Dreams and a piece of bread

Dreams and a piece of bread

Three people who set out on a long and exhausting journey met on the highway and decided to travel together. They pooled their supplies and amicably shared the hardships and successes, hardships and joys of the journey.

But then the day came when all that was left of all their provisions was a piece of bread and a sip of water in a flask. A dispute broke out between the travelers over which of the three of them should get bread and water. No one wanted to give up their share to others. They decided to divide everything equally, but they failed.

So they argued until it began to get dark, and then one of them suggested:

“Let’s all go to bed, and whoever of us has the most wonderful dream at night will be the judge of us.”

His companions agreed with him, and they immediately lay down and fell asleep. The next morning, at sunrise, the friends woke up.

The first one began to talk:

“I dreamed that I was raptured into such a perfect world that language is powerless to describe its splendor; It was as if a serene peace had enveloped me. There I met a sage who told me: “This food should go to you, for your past and future life are filled with admirable deeds.”

“How strange,” said another traveler, “after all, when I fell asleep, I actually saw my past and future, and in the future I met an all-knowing man who said: “You deserve this bread, because you are more patient than your comrades and more learned than them.” According to your destiny, you will be trained and lead people.”

The third traveler said:

“In my dream, I didn’t see anything, didn’t hear anything, didn’t talk to anyone. But some irresistible force forced me to get up, find bread and water and swallow it all at once, which I did right away.
