Prince Mou of the Middle Mountains asked Chuang Tzu:
- What should I do? With my body I wander along the rivers and seas, but with my heart I remain at the palace gates of Wei.
“Value life,” replied Chuang Tzu. - He who values life despises profit.
“I know this,” answered the king’s son Mou, “but I still can’t control myself.”
“If you can’t control yourself,” said Chuang Tzu, “then follow your passions.” It won't hurt your mind. To prevent someone who cannot control himself from pursuing his passions is to inflict a double wound on him. A person with a double wound will not be among the long-lived.
Mou was the son of a Wei king who owned many chariots. It was more difficult for him to hide in a cave on a high rock than for a husband in canvas clothes. Although he did not reach the path, one might say he had an idea about it.
