Passing through one city, the Yangtze master entered an inn. The master of the court had two concubines: a beautiful one and an ugly one. The owner valued the ugly, but neglected the beautiful.

When asked by Yangtze what the reason was, he replied:

“The beauty admires herself, but I don’t understand what her beauty is.” The ugly one belittles herself, but I don’t understand what her ugliness is.

“Remember this,” Yangtze said to his students. - Act with dignity, but drive away complacency - and you will be loved wherever you go.
