The sages say that one day a donkey heard the nightingale singing at dawn and was enchanted by his voice. And the donkey asked the nightingale:
- Tell me, my friend, what did you eat today, why do you have such a beautiful voice?
“My breakfast today consisted of dew and air,” answered the nightingale.
The donkey, wishing to become like the nightingale and find an equally sweet and euphonious voice, opened his mouth wide so that more dew and air could fall into it. He refused all other food. So he died.
The moral of this fable is clear: a person should not strive for what is contrary to his nature.
