Dog and deer

Dog and deer

There lived a dog in the world. One day she went for a walk outside the city and saw deer competing and running. The dog stopped, looked at them, and became envious: the deer ran so easily and quickly!

The dog looked and looked at them and finally couldn’t stand it - it started running with them. But the deer ran quickly, and the dog slowly, and every time she lagged behind them. The dog both envied and admired the deer. She was annoyed with herself, but she did not lose hope that someday she too would be able to run as fast.

She decided to definitely learn from the deer and turned to their leader:

“Brother deer,” she said with feeling, “I liked the way you run so much that I myself joined you, but I couldn’t keep up with you.”

Explain to me, please, what is the secret? Is it possible for me to learn to run just as fast?

Hearing this, the deer was very flattered and touched, but he could not figure out how to help the dog. He stood for a long time in thought, when suddenly his gaze stopped at the dog’s tail.

- Oh, now I understand why you can’t run fast! - he said. —

It's because of the tail. If it weren't for him, you would run as well as we do.

The dog looked at the deer and saw that they had no tails. She believed the leader and, gritting her teeth in pain, cut off her tail.

But the dog remained a dog. Without a tail, she ran no faster than before. Only then did she realize how unreasonable it is to blindly believe other people’s words; you can leave the dogs behind and avoid the deer.
