The nightingale once said to the peacock:

“As soon as I start a trill, people are going to listen to the purity and beauty of my voice.” A man may be a murderer, but at the same time he is an esthete.

The peacock listened and decided that with the help of his fabulously beautiful plumage he would gain such a crowd of admirers as the nightingale had never dreamed of.

And so he went to the meeting place of people and began to puff himself up and every minute fold and unfurl his tail so that it would catch everyone’s eye.

One of the people said:

“Something is wrong with this unfortunate peacock: he just can’t calm down.” He's probably sick with something.

And they seized the peacock and killed it so that its disease would not spread to their poultry.
