Defectiveness of body and mind

Defectiveness of body and mind

There once lived a hunchback named Zhi. His body was so ugly that his chin almost rested on his stomach, and his shoulders stuck out above his head, his insides seemed to have grown to his spine, and his ribs stuck out so that it seemed as if his skin would burst.

He washed clothes and thus fed himself, and also told others about their fate. If the authorities were recruiting troops, Zhi did not have to hide: no one would even think of calling a hunchback to war. When people were selected for public works, he was exempted from duties every time. When alms were distributed to the sick and infirm in the city, he received three measures of grain and ten bundles of brushwood.

If even a person so flawed in body is able to protect himself and live to the full his term set for him by nature, then even more so is he able to do this who is beautiful in body but flawed in mind!
