Deep are the straits of Iceland

They say that one day a certain giantess decided to wade from Norway to Iceland. Of course, she was warned that there would be deep places on the way there, but she said to another giantess, her neighbor, who wanted to dissuade her from traveling:

– The straits of Iceland are deep, but they can be forded.

Still, she heard that in the middle of the sea there was a place so deep that even the top of her head would get wet there. After this, the giantess set off and came to this depression, which frightened her most of all. Then she decided to catch a ship that was sailing there and hold on to it over the strait. But the giantess missed the ship and at the same time tripped, plunged into the water and drowned. Her body washed ashore at Roidasand, and it was so huge that the rider on the horse could not reach the bend of her knee with his whip as she lay on the shore, dead and motionless.
