Raban Gamliel gave his daughter in marriage.

- Bless me, father! - asked the daughter.

Rabban Gamliel said:

“May it be the will of the Lord that you never cross my threshold again.”

Having given birth to a son, she again began to ask her father to bless her.

“May the will of the Lord be done,” said Rabban Gamliel, “so that the words “Woe is me!” were your usual exclamation.

- Father! - said the daughter. “I had two celebrations - and both times you cursed me!”

“No, my daughter,” answered Rabban Gamliel, “these were not curses, but blessings: I wished you such a happy and joyful life in your husband’s house that you would never need to return to my house.” Then, I wished your son to live and grow, and for you to take care of him, exclaiming every now and then: “Oh, woe is me, I haven’t fed my son yet!”, “Woe is me, I haven’t given my son something to drink yet!”, “Woe is me, I haven’t sent him to school yet!”
