by
Coyote and the Owl Woman
Enlight

One day a coyote appeared in the place where the Columbia River flows into the ocean, and there lived a woman owl not far away - an evil old witch who for many years in a row destroyed the people who came to her. The witch will tie a man to a boat and set him adrift in the darkness.

- Go away forever! - he sentences.

The boat will return, and on it lie human bones.

A crowd of unfortunates stood on the shore: a sad fate awaited each of them.

The poor captives really wanted to get rid of the evil old woman, but her witchcraft deprived them of their power.

Coyote mingled with the crowd, watched the owl woman for a while and said to the people:

- Now I’ll test my fate! I think I can return to you safe and sound.

They tied the coyote to the boat, and the old woman spoke.

- Go away forever!

But the people shouted in unison:

- Come back to us!

Time dragged on for a long time, but then a boat appeared in the distance. Little by little she swam closer and closer. Everyone thought - what about the coyote? But as soon as the boat moored to the shore, everyone saw that the coyote was safe and sound.

So who is stronger - the witch or the coyote?

They tied the old woman to the boat and quickly sent her into the darkness. And the coyote and all the people shouted loudly:

- Go away forever!

The boat returned, and on it were the white bones of the sorceress.

People were very happy that they got rid of the evil witch. They began to beg the coyote to stay with them, even promising him a beautiful girl as his wife. But the coyote refused:

- No, I don’t need a wife. Let me run further along the river bank!
