In ancient times, a herd of cows grazed near the forest. They always stayed together, not one of them left the herd.
And in the forest there lived a tiger, and he was very cunning and cunning. For a long time he wanted to kill some cow, but the herd was like a rock - try to drag even one away!
Then the tiger decided to somehow divide the herd and quarrel the cows.
One day he approached a cow and began to whisper to her:
- Listen, cool-horned one! Do you know that that one over there with the curved horns and sunken sides is planning to gore you?
Then he crawled to another cow:
- Hey, long-tailed one! I see you grazing as if nothing had happened. Or don’t you see how that cow with straight horns is puffing up? But she's going to gore you!
The cows believed the cunning tiger, began to peer suspiciously at each other and soon quarreled over some trifle. They no longer all stayed together as before - they nibbled the grass separately, and walked separately to the watering hole.
The tiger had quarreled with all the cows, and now it cost him nothing to kill them one after another: the steep-horned one, the long-tailed one, the spotted one, and the one with sunken sides. So he ate the whole herd.
Since then, people have said: “Cows apart are joy for the tiger.”
