Chicken and rat

Chicken and rat
Enlight

One fine day, the chicken and the rat suddenly found themselves in front of each other. The rat was scared of such a big bird: it had never seen a chicken before.

“Chicken, my dear,” she said in a trembling voice, “let’s swear by blood that we are friends.”

The good hen willingly agreed; when they sealed their union with fatidra, she said to her new sister:

“Let’s go eat rice together; my owner scattered it in the sun to dry it.”

- Oh, sister, I can’t look for food during the day; I ask you, wait until night comes, then we’ll go.

“But I’m not a night bird.” What should we do? In the end, they decided this: the rat, which is afraid of people, will wait until dark and go to get food at night, and the chicken will go in search during the day, but will deliberately scatter the grains so that the rat can pick them up later.

That is why the chicken, when it pecks, scatters the grains: it is she who makes sure that the rat, her blood sister, can find and eat at night what is scattered and spilled on the ground.
