Chestnut and fig tree

Chestnut and fig tree
Enlight

A man climbed a fig tree and pounced on the juicy fruits. He picked them off with both hands and put them in his mouth one after another. Seeing all this, the chestnut tree growing nearby rustled its branches sympathetically.

“Poor fig tree,” he roared, “how defenseless her children are in front of people.” So I can protect my offspring from attacks much better. First I envelop my tender offspring with a tender shell. On top of it is a hard shell, which also has a soft lining on the inside. Plus, nature has provided chestnuts with sharp and frequent thorns, thanks to which it is not at all easy for a person to harm me.

- What nonsense you are saying! — the fig tree laughed in response, “Aren’t you familiar with the ingenuity and bloodthirstiness of man?” If he can’t just take your children away, he will throw rods and stones until he knocks them down. Having knocked the fruits to the ground, he will trample them with his feet or hit them with stones. He holds me carefully in his hands and as a result causes much less harm.
