One day the cat announced that he wanted to make a pilgrimage to Mecca and there receive absolution from Allah. And, admittedly, he had a lot of them, especially in front of the mice.
The cat began to spread rumors that from now on he would not touch a single mouse, even if it began to run along his back.
These rumors reached the mouse khan. The khan rejoiced - since the cat repented, there would be peace in the kingdom. And yet the mouse khan sent two young mice to the cat to check.
The cat received them kindly and said:
“I beg you, brothers, forgive my sins.” Perhaps one of your loved ones found death from me. But it won't happen again. We are all God's creatures, and it is not fitting for us to offend each other.
On the second day, the mouse khan himself came to the cat with a large retinue. The cat also greeted them friendly and began to ask for forgiveness. All the mice surrounded the cat and began to express their joy. Only one old mouse climbed into the nearest hole and from there looked at the cheerful fuss.
“Are you stupid, won’t you come to us?” After all, the cat had changed and became different—everyone began to call her.
“The cat has changed, but his mustache remains the same,” answered the mouse. And before she had time to utter these words, the cat strangled all the mice.
