This story is about one woman. She was carrying a casket with precious stones to the jeweler's workshop, but right in front of the workshop she tripped and the casket fell to the ground.
The lid of the casket flew off, and the precious stones scattered in all directions.
The jeweler's assistants ran out of the store to prevent passers-by from picking up any gems, and helped the woman collect the jewelry.
An ostrich, wandering nearby, ran past and, unnoticed in the general commotion, swallowed the largest and best stone.
The woman, not finding this stone, began to cry, but, despite everyone’s efforts, the stone was not found anywhere.
Someone said:
“The only one who could take this stone is that dervish who sits quietly by the wall of the workshop.”
The dervish saw the ostrich swallow the stone, but did not want any blood to be spilled. Therefore, when he was grabbed, searched and even punched, he only said:
- I didn’t take anything.
As he was being beaten, one of his comrades came up and reminded the crowd to be careful in their actions. He was also captured and, despite all his objections, accused of having probably taken the stone from the first dervish.
Events developed in this spirit until a person with knowledge appeared. Noticing an ostrich, he asked:
“Was this bird nearby when the casket fell?”
“Yes,” the people answered.
“In that case,” he noted, “pay attention to the ostrich.”
The owner of the ostrich was paid the cost of the bird, which was then killed. The missing gem was found in her stomach.
