This is what happened one day to the peasant Napha Kyagua.
One day he was returning home. Tired of the journey, he jumped off his horse, tied it to an oak branch, leaned his gun against it, lay down on the grass and fell asleep.
At this time, three horsemen - nobles - were passing along the same road. They saw the sleeping Kyagua, quickly tied him up and drove him and his horse in front of them.
On the way they asked the prisoner:
“Don’t you know that Napha Kyagua, about whose courage they talk so much?”
- Yes, I know him! - Kyagua answered. – He is a brave man, but courage depends on chance!
Night has fallen. The riders stopped, unsaddled their horses, lit a fire, sat down by the fire and began to have dinner, but they did not give Kyagua anything.
Then they went to bed. Then Kyagua untied his hands with his teeth, saddled his horse, then saddled the rapists’ horses, hung weapons on the bows of their saddles, put a whip on each sleeping person’s hand, and placed his saddled horse next to each one. Then, jumping into the saddle, he shouted:
- Wake up! Get on your horses!
The sleepers woke up and rushed to the horses. When they were already sitting on horseback, Kiagua shouted again:
- Take up arms!
They grabbed the checkers. Then Kyagua rushed at them with a loud cry, knocked them off their horses, took away their weapons, tied them up and drove them in front of him.
The day passed, night came. Quigua took the captives to the house of one of his friends, fed them and ate himself. After this, he drove the captives further, and when he approached the place where they lived, he said:
- If I were like you, I would have acted differently with you, but so be it - live! Come home! You tied me up sleeping, but such an act is a shame for a man. It’s not for nothing that they say: he who sleeps is as good as dead. Know that I am the same Napha Kyagua whose courage you asked about!
