In a deep forest, in a birch bark tent, there lived a goat. One day a tramp wolf ran into his tent. And asks:
-What is that white sparkling thing on your head?
“This is my saber with which I kill wolves and bears.”
“What’s that gray thing hanging around your mouth?”
“This is my handkerchief, with which I wipe myself when I eat a wolf or a bear,” answered the goat, shouting “Bol-bol!” he galloped and butted his birch bark tent so hard that the tent fell into pieces. The goat shouted again: “Bol-bol!” - and butted the rock.
The wolf was afraid of the goat's strength and ran away. Soon he met a bear. And asks:
“You were not afraid of anyone, who were you afraid of?” Never one to back down, who are you running from?
“The goat scared me,” answered the wolf.
- Uh, what a little coward you are! I should have eaten that goat! Let's go together.
- No, grandfather, I'm afraid.
“Don’t be afraid, I will tie you to me with a rope, and you will feel that I am with you all the time.”
The bear tied one end of the rope to the wolf's neck and the other end to his own neck. The two of them came to the goat.
-What is that white sparkling thing on your head? - asked the bear.
- This is my saber with which I kill bears and wolves.
“What’s that gray thing hanging around your mouth?”
- This is my handkerchief, with which I wipe myself when I eat a bear or a wolf.
And with a cry of “Bol-bol!” The goat butted the rock. The bear got scared and ran. He ran and said:
— The scary goat shouts: “Bol-bol!” The scary goat shouts: “Bol-bol!” - And he dragged the wolf along with him.
- Grandfather, I’m suffocating! - the wolf shouted.
- Choke, choke! - answered the bear.
“Grandfather, I’m dying!” shouted the wolf.
- Die, die! - answered the bear. And he ran even faster.
- Bol-bol! - the goat shouted and ran after them.
It became difficult for the bear. He looked around and saw: he was dragging a dead wolf. The bear gnawed the rope and left quickly.
And the goat ran up and saw: a dead wolf. He put the wolf on his shoulders and dragged him away. Soon he approached the birch bark tent. He dropped the wolf at the entrance, and he himself entered the tent. There were seven wolves. One played the chadagan, the rest listened. Seeing the goat, they sang:
Today there is something to eat! What will we eat tomorrow?
The goat was not at a loss and said:
- Let me play!
The wolves were surprised and gave him chadagan. The goat sang:
[Chadagan is a musical instrument in the form of a long box with four to eight strings made of sinew or horsehair. Externally, the chadagan looks like a harp.]
There are seven animals in the black plague. The eighth, killed, is at the door! I found you for a fur coat. Oh, how good it is!
The wolves got scared and quietly said to one:
- Look what's there at the door.
The wolf went to look and did not return. They sent a second one - the second one disappeared. One by one the wolves left, and no one returned. The last two jumped out together, saw the dead wolf and took off running. The goat is behind them.
“I’ll gore you all, Kulugurs, I’ll make a fur coat out of you!” Bol-bol! he shouted.
The wolves ran across the ice. The goat slid, stopped and shouted after them:
“Oh, if it weren’t for the slippery ice, I would have dealt with all these enemies.” I would put everyone on the horns!
