Black Nosed Buddha

by
Black Nosed Buddha
Enlight

A nun who was seeking enlightenment made a statue of Buddha and covered it with gold. She carried the golden Buddha with her everywhere.

Years passed, and, still carrying the Buddha with her, the nun came to live in a small temple in a village where there were many Buddhas: each with its own shrine.

The nun wanted to burn incense in front of her golden Buddha, but since she did not like the idea that the incense would fall on others, she made a pipe through which the smoke fell only on her statue. Because of this, the nose of the golden Buddha turned black and he became very ugly.
