Birth of the Gods

Birth of the Gods

At the highest Thirteenth Heaven, in the Western Paradise, the first gods appeared. There, among the fog, the dual divine principle Ometeotl, the union of Ometecuhtli and Omesihuatl, the male and female principles, was born from the silence of the universe.

Nothing more existed, nothing was created: there was no earth, no people, no animals, no plants. With the appearance of the gods, life was born, and from them other gods were born.

The first four of them were the most powerful. The first was Red Tezcatlipoca (his name meant: Smoking Mirror), god of the East. The second was Black Tezcatlipoca, god of the North and the night sky, vengeful and feared; he was endowed with the ability to read minds and be omnipresent. The third was Quetzalcoatl (Feathered Serpent), the white god of the West, a noble protector. The fourth was the young warrior Huitzilopochtli (Magic Hummingbird), the blue god of the South, who had no body.

These four main gods created fire, the calendar, water and earth
