The first time Coatlicue became pregnant from an obsidian knife, giving birth to a girl, Coyolxauqui (goddess of the Moon) and boys, who later became stars.
One day, she was cleaning and saw a bundle of hummingbird feathers fall from the sky. The woman clutched the fallen package to her chest. Then she noticed that the package had disappeared somewhere and felt that she was pregnant again.
The woman's daughter, Coyolxauqui, found out about her mother's pregnancy and considered it an insult. She told everything to the southern brothers Senzon Huiznahuaqui (Countless Stars), who, like their sister, did not believe their mother’s story about how she became pregnant, and convinced them to kill their mother. Coatlicue was upset and went to the temple in anticipation of her sons and her own death. But Huitzilopochtli told her not to worry and that he would solve the problem himself. And, one of the brothers, Cuautlicac, secretly from the others came to his mother and told her about plans to kill her and Huitzilopochtli, with whom she was pregnant. Moreover, he acted on the advice of this same Huitzilopochtli, who recommended that he report all the machinations of his mother.
By the time the conspiratorial brothers reached the temple at the top of the pyramid, Huitzilopochtli had already been born, fully equipped with weapons, and even donned the robe of a nagual. Here's what happened next. From somewhere unknown, an assistant who came from set fire, like a torch, to a snake named Xiucoatl (Milky Way), and with this flaming snake, like a sword, Huitzilopochtli cut off the head of the evil sister Coyolxauqui. Her head rolled down the steps of the pyramid, and her body remained decapitated. The brothers ran away in horror, but Huitzilopochtli caught up and killed them all.
He threw his sister's head high into the sky, where she became the Moon; he believed that his mother Coatlicue would be more comfortable at night if she saw her daughter’s face in the sky. And he threw the body into a deep gorge in the mountain.
After which he put on the signs of military valor and turned into the Sun, and at the same time into the god of war.
