Once upon a time, in ancient times, the birds conspired to gather in a large flat meadow and choose a king. There was an eagle, a stork, a thrush, a wagtail, a swan, a lark, a sparrow, and one more, the smallest bird.

Every bird wanted to become a king, but did not dare to come forward. They chatted for a long time, until the stork, knowing that his wings were strong, decided: whoever rises the highest will be the king of the birds. All the birds agreed with him.

Only the stork clicked his beak, gave a sign, and the birds took off in a cloud. The partridge immediately flopped to the ground, the hen also began to descend and almost sprained her leg. The other birds flew as much as they could, but one after another they soon got tired and began to descend.

Only the stork and the eagle flew so high that they could barely be seen. In the end, the stork got tired. The eagle was left alone and squealed:

- I am the king! I am the king! Who will fly higher than me?

- I! - the bird squeaked under his ear and rose higher than the eagle. - I am the king!

And this little bird sat on the eagle’s back and kept waiting for him to get tired. The eagle tried to overtake the bird, but where is it! Is it possible to catch up with the tired and rested?

So the little bird outwitted everyone and became king. Only she felt ashamed of her deception, and from then on she hid in the bushes; All the birds, when they see her, shout:

- Little king! Baby king!
