Once upon a time the chipmunk was all red.
One day he jumped, jumped through the trees and went for a walk on the ground. Met a bear. We started talking.
The bear said: “I am afraid of iron arrows.” And when people shoot an arrow with a wooden tip, I’m not afraid. Chipmunk says to the bear:
“I’m not afraid of iron arrows either.” I'm little, and arrows fly by.
The bear thought and said:
– When a person lets one dog attack me, I’m not afraid. When many dogs run at me, then I cannot be saved.
“So,” says the chipmunk, “when there are a lot of dogs running, I’m not afraid, but one dog will always run over me.”
The bear got angry with the chipmunk because he would contradict him in everything, and as soon as he ran his paw along his back, marks remained on the chipmunk’s back.
The bear growled and went into the mountains. And the chipmunk still has five stripes on his back to this day.
