Every day the barge hauler slowly walked along the thorny bank of the river and pulled the boat along with him against the current on a rope. His feet were bleeding and wounded by the sharp thorns with which the shore was thickly overgrown. But he continued his work, dreaming of how one fine day, having earned a lot of money with his barge labor, he would buy many, many pillows and blankets and spread them along the shore to protect his feet from cuts.
“Then,” he thought, “pulling the boat will be a pleasure and my barge hauling business will truly flourish.”
