In Montenegro they say that some resident of Ceklić stole a horse somewhere in Herzegovina. In a hurry, I didn’t put a saddle on her. The darkness was pitch black. He had never ridden a horse before, so he sat down, not like a human, - facing the tail, and in order not to fall, he grabbed the tail. He sat down and said to the horse:
“I don’t even know how to get out of these damned mountains.” You are smarter than me, take me to Cheklich. Do you know where Cheklich is? And I will look to see if there is anyone chasing us.
The horse, as usual, went straight to its house: where else could the rider go if not home? Take the guy from Cheklich and go to sleep. At dawn a fellow countryman met him, he recognized the guy and asked:
- Listen, where are you going?
- How to where, brother? Home, where else?
- Why are you sitting like that? Who rides like that? Are you crazy, or what?
- Am I crazy? Go ahead and come up with such a clever thing!
- What is it?
“After all, I sat backwards, people I meet won’t recognize me, but I can immediately see the chase.”
They separated. The horse walked and walked, and brought the guy straight to the owner’s gate. The owner saw his horse, looked, some guy sat on it backwards, was surprised and so asked him: who is he, where is he from, what is his name, why did he come on someone else’s horse, why is he sitting differently from all good people? The guy didn’t even turn his head, got off his horse and answered:
“You’d better ask your horse about this, he’ll answer sooner, but I don’t have time to talk to you.”
