Atumtai and Nasharvan

Once upon a time there lived two friends. One of them was called Atumtai, and the other was called Nashavan. Atumtai was generous, and Nasharvan was fair. They both lived in great friendship and harmony. They would have lived like this for the rest of their lives without quarrels if there were no devils on earth. The devils were jealous of such friendship and decided to break it.

One day the old shaitan asked his son:

– Is there a person left in the world who has not been led astray by us?

- Yes, father! - said the son. “There are still such righteous people who did not succumb to our temptation, these are Atumtai and Nasharvan. If we tackle them, I think we will be able to lead them astray. To do this, we need to get into their souls and antagonize them so that they harbor enmity towards each other...

So they did. After some time, friends became irreconcilable enemies. One day the fair Nashavan went out into the field for a walk. Shaitan was already sitting in his soul and immediately told his son, who had entered Atumtai’s soul, to inspire him to also go out into the field. Atumtai armed himself with a saber and went for a walk in the field.

The rivals met. Atumtay noticed that Nasharvan did not have any weapons and decided to kill him. But Nasharvan guessed the desire of his former friend and exclaimed:

- Oh Atumtai! You have always been generous, give me your saber and prove by this that you have remained the same!..

“What should I do? – thought Atumtai. - If you give away a saber, it means exposing yourself to the danger of being cut down by your own saber; if you don’t satisfy the enemy’s request, it means you will forever lose your honor and be stingy in the eyes of Nasharan.” Atumtai thought so and decided to give up the saber.

“Take my saber,” he said, “but remember, you must also prove to me that you are fair!”

Having received the weapon, Nasharvan wanted to chop up Atum-tai, but immediately changed his mind, remembering Atumtai’s hint about “justice.” And instead of killing his former friend, he rushed to Atumtai and squeezed him tightly in his arms.

The heart itself told the friends that they had succumbed to the temptation of the shaitan.
