The seeker of truth arrived at the tekkiya of Bahaudin Nakhshband. He attended the lecture and did not ask any questions. When Bahaudin said: “Ask me something,” he replied: “Shah, before coming to you, I studied such and such a philosophy under the guidance of such and such. Your authority forced me to undertake a journey to your tekkiya. After hearing your speeches, I decided that I wanted to continue my studies with you. But I am so attached to my former teachers that I would like you either to explain to me their connection with your work, or to make me forget about them, so that I can move forward with undivided attention.”

Bahaudin said: “I can do neither this nor that. But I can tell you that attachment to a person and the conviction that this attachment comes from a higher source is the surest sign of human vanity. If you don’t break up with him, you can only cling to your affections, calling them attractiveness.”
