Ascanius is a character in ancient Greek and Roman mythology. According to the dominant version of the myth, Ascanius was the son of Aeneas and Creusa, the granddaughter of the Trojan king Priam. Virgil also calls him Iulus below, making him the ancestor of the Julius family, to which Julius Caesar and Augustus belonged.
