Malik, the son of Dinar, describes the man's misbehavior and his treatment.
Malik was very concerned about the dissolute behavior of a depraved young man who lived nearby. For a long time he did nothing, hoping that someone else would intervene, and eventually people began to express dissatisfaction with this young man. Then Malik went to him and reprimanded him, demanding that he reform. However, the young man informed Malik that he was the Sultan’s favorite and that no one could forbid him to do whatever he liked.
Malik said that he would go to the Sultan; but the young man assured him that the ruler would never change his opinion about him.
“In that case,” said Malik, “I will complain about you above, to the Creator.”
The young man said that the Lord was too lenient to reproach him.
Malik was at a loss and left the young man to his own devices; but now the opinion of him had become so bad that people openly resented him. Malik went to reprimand him again.
However, as he walked to the young man’s house, a voice from above called to him:
- Don't touch my friend!
Malik was amazed, and he entered the young man in confusion. As soon as he saw him, the libertine asked why he had come again. Malik said:
“I can’t blame you, but I have to tell you what happened.”
And he told him about the incident with the voice. The sinner said:
- If he is my Friend, I will give him everything I own.
Giving up his wealth, he became a wanderer. Once again Malik Dinar met him in Mecca.
The young man said:
“I came to see my Friend,” and died.
