Anchises is the father of the main character of the poem "Aeneid" by Publius Virgil Maro, the son of Capis and Themis, the grandson of the Trojan king Ilus, the father of Aeneas. The goddess Aphrodite (in the Roman pantheon - Venus), according to myth, fell in love with Anchises, seeing him on Mount Ida at the head of the army, and, uniting with him, gave birth to his son Aeneas. Anchises, for boasting of his connection with Venus, was punished by Jupiter, who, according to one version, blinded him, and according to another, sent paralysis to him. That is why Aeneas has to carry his father on his shoulders, although he was not yet an old man.
