One day, as always, working in the field near the village of Usila, the Indian heard the sound of three blows on a tree. He did not attach much importance to this and, having finished his agricultural work, went to where he usually hunted. But this time the hunt was unsuccessful. Moreover, he was so tired that, leaning against the trunk, he unexpectedly dozed off. When he woke up, he saw a huge fox in front of him. All attempts to catch up with her, much less grab her, were in vain.
It seemed that everything was over, but the Indian suddenly felt that his left cheek was very numb. Returning home, the hunter had already forgotten about everything that had happened and only a few days later he decided to consult with the healer (ah-men) of the village about his cheek, which began to bother him.
After listening carefully to his patient, the ax-man said that everything that happened to him was caused by the wind of the Alushi living in the mountains. Finally, the healer promised to treat him in such a way that he wouldn’t even notice.
... Left alone, the hunter began to go over in his memory everything that happened to him that day. Gradually he managed to remember that in addition to the appearance of the fox, three blows on the tree were also heard, as if they were throwing a stone at him. The hunter guessed that Alush appeared in front of him in the guise of a fox, who made it clear that he did not like the presence of a stranger in his domain.
Some time later, the ax-man returned with the leaves of the sipche plant to perform the ritual and said:
- In order to quickly heal you, your help is needed. You must make nine offerings of the saka drink at your milpa, as well as in the place where the evil wind caught you.
Having followed all the instructions of the ax-man, the Indian felt that he had become completely healthy.
