Imiruddin Arosi came from a family well known for its adherence to the sect of the enthusiastic.
Having met a wise man, he said to him:
“My wife and I tried for many years to purposefully follow the path of the dervishes. Realizing that we know less than many others, we have long been content to spend our wealth in the name of truth. We followed people who had accepted the responsibility to teach and whom we now doubted. We are not dejected because we have lost the money our former mentors invested in unprofitable businesses in the name of a higher goal, but rather we feel sorry for the time and effort wasted, as well as for those who still remain subordinate to impostor mentors and have recklessly settled in a house with an unhealthy atmosphere, where two false Sufis are in charge.
The sage, whom tradition calls Khoja Ahrar, the Lord of those who are free, replied:
“You have repented of your attachment to the wannabe Teachers, but your self-righteousness is not yet affected - that is why you decided that you are responsible for the prisoners of lies. Many captives themselves are still caught in the networks of deception - they, too, are not alien to gullibility and crave easy knowledge.
- What should we do? - asked Imiruddin Arosi.
“Come to me with an open heart, without any preconceptions, even such as serving humanity or the presence of meaning in my actions,” said the Master, “for the liberation of your comrades is an activity for those who know, and not for you.” Your abilities are flawed - even the ability to form a definite opinion about me, and - as for me - I refuse to rely on them.
However, Arosi and his wife, afraid of making a mistake again, left to find someone else who would calm them down - which is completely natural.
And they found such a person.
As it turned out later, it was another deceiver.
Years passed, and the couple again directed their steps to the house of Khoja Ahrar.
“We have come,” they turned to the gatekeeper, “to most humbly—like bodies in the hands of a corpse-washer—to surrender ourselves into the hands of the Lord of those who are free.”
“Good people,” said the gatekeeper, “your intention is commendable and indistinguishable from the determination of those whom the Lord of the Free often accepted as disciples.” But in this life you do not have a second opportunity, because Khoja Ahrar died.
