- I call you to be a judge. Let my sons show you their skill in horse riding. They will saddle their horses and meet at the large baobab tree that grows outside the village. And you look, and whoever you recognize as the most clever will receive most of my property.
The three young men saddled their horses and galloped to the appointed place. The eldest started first. He set his horse into a gallop, directed it towards the baobab tree and, with acceleration, threw a spear at the tree. The spear pierced the baobab tree, and the young man jumped into the resulting hole after his spear. The advisors and the leader clapped their hands in approval. The young man bowed to them and rode away.
It was the turn of the second son. He started his horse towards the tree, then pulled the bit and jumped over the baobab tree without touching a single branch. And his dexterity was also noted with applause. The young man thanked everyone with a bow and rode off.
What could the youngest son do to surpass his brothers? He sat firmly on his horse, rushed to the baobab tree and with a powerful jerk pulled out the entire tree along with the roots. Then, waving it, he returned to his father and his advisers. An explosion of applause greeted him. The young man placed the torn tree in front of the advisers, bowed to them and rode away.
And the advisers could not decide which of the three brothers surpassed the others in dexterity. Which one should you name first?
