There lived in a village a woman named Do Thwa with her daughter and son-in-law. And that son-in-law was a rare slacker. All day long he wandered around the village, now visiting one friend, then another. He only came home to spend the night.
So he spent days after days in idle chatter, and all the chores around the house fell on the shoulders of Do Thwa. However, the poor woman meekly endured all the hardships and did not complain about her son-in-law, because she doted on her daughter.
One bad autumn evening, my mother-in-law and son-in-law were sitting on the veranda. Suddenly the son-in-law says, turning to his mother-in-law:
- Mother, wake me up early tomorrow!
– What important things have you got to do? – the mother-in-law was surprised.
– At dawn, while it’s still cool, it’s very pleasant to smoke a cigar!
