Muhammad, the son of Isa, was one of the close companions of the Leader of the Faithful. He surpassed everyone else in his flexibility and liveliness of thinking.
One day he rode on horseback through the streets of Baghdad, accompanied by a large retinue. People asked each other:
“Who is this man, so dazzlingly dressed, on such a magnificent horse, so rich?”
And a certain old woman, falling on one leg, said to them:
- This is a poor man, not a rich man. For if Allah had not deprived him of his blessing, he would not have shown such vanity.
Hearing this, Muhammad, the son of Isa, immediately jumped from his magnificently decorated horse, recognizing that these words really corresponded to his inner state. From that moment on, all desire for ostentatious pomp and wealth left him.
