Here’s a parable: neither a wife without a husband, nor a husband without a wife can manage. Such division only causes harm and confusion.
If there is no owner in the house, then there is no harmony, and where there is no harmony, there is no progress in the work—everyone is at their best, no one listens to each other; Well, where they don’t listen to each other, it’s unlikely that anything good will happen. In any work it is necessary for one to help the other, as we see in all crafts and trades.
If there is no mistress, then don’t expect order in the house at all. And if there is no order in the house, then there will be no order in the entire household. It’s not for nothing that they say: the roof is leaking in one corner, and it’s wet on the bench and on the floor. So it turns out that the spouses cannot live without each other. That is why, when the foreign princes dismantled all the Shilda husbands as advisers, and the wives were left alone, the town of Shilda fell into complete desolation. However, the wives of the Schildburgers did not want to put up with such disorder and, keeping in mind the general benefit, decided to hold advice on how to save the city. They judged for a long time, argued for a long time, and thought this way and that, but everything comes to one thing: their husbands need to be returned. But this is easy to say, but how to do it?
First of all, they decided to write a letter to their husbands and send it everywhere.
This letter did not reach us, but, if my memory serves me correctly, it said this:
“Hello, dear husbands! Your wives are writing to you and sending you a low bow from the city of Shilda, to everyone collectively and to each individually.
And your parents and all your children bow to you, little by little, who grow up as orphans without you, like blades of grass in a field - this is when their fathers are alive! Great honor to you and glory to the entire Schild family, that princes from distant countries have appointed you as advisers and listen to your clever words. But only your wives, and children, and all your relatives have suffered great damage: the economy has fallen into disrepair, the fields will not bear fruit, the cattle are running wild, and small children are growing up unheard of. So we ask you to return to your home as soon as possible, get the household back on its feet, and teach the children to be smart.
And allow me to say a word: it’s God’s mercy that the weather is April. The gentlemen are too expensive for handouts and promises, but you, flattered by self-interest, have forgotten the way home. Apparently, they have forgotten how a hunter with a toothless dog acts:
the reward for faithful service hangs on the first branch. The same fate will befall you when the princes turn their mercy into anger and deprive you of your freedom. Freedom must be revered more than gold. And whoever needs your advice will find you himself. Turn around quickly, so that your little children and we, your faithful wives, will rejoice in you and so that the economy will rise again, and your parents, looking at you, can calmly die. We bow to you on earth and can’t wait for you to arrive home.”
