Once upon a time there lived in a village a man who was notoriously lazy and a slacker. “Nothing,” people said, “he’ll get married, and need will force him to get down to business.” But that was not the case! When he got married and had children, he became more lazy than ever and, in order to avoid work, looked for thousands of different tricks. One day, when all the tricks had been tried, the lazy man decided to show religious zeal and announced that he was going to become a monk for a month. His wife, a good-natured and simple-minded woman, did not see any trick in this.
Time passed, and the lazy man had no intention of parting with the idle monastic life and returning to worldly concerns.
However, little by little the wife figured out her husband’s trick and began to think about how to get him back into the house. She thought and thought and decided to also resort to cunning. She dressed smarter and went to the monastery.
- Dear hubby! - she said. – If you like life in a monastery, stay here forever. Don't worry about me. I will go to another village, marry an old bachelor, and he will willingly take care of me and the children.
Hearing such words, the lazy man became worried. Moreover, he did not intend to stay in the monastery forever, because, it turns out, he also had to work there.
- How can I allow this to happen! – he exclaimed hotly. “It’s better for me to sacrifice my Buddhist education for the sake of you and the children!”
That same day he left the monastery and returned home with his wife.
