Once upon a time there lived two wise men. One of them was mistaken, but many people believed that he was a great man.
The second sage was the true possessor of supreme knowledge. And again, many believed in him.
As a result of a natural disaster, both sages, together with their followers, appeared before the Judging Angels, who determine the future location of human souls.
The angels questioned everyone. They then announced that the followers of the first sage would go with him to hell, and the community of the second sage would accompany him to heaven.
However, the sages and the entire assembly of souls were at a loss. They asked the Angels:
— On what basis was such a decision made?
The angels replied:
“Both sages and their disciples are believers. But the first sage, imagining that he believed in something higher, in reality believed only in himself. His followers would not be his disciples if they did not have the inner desire to worship him. The second sage believed only in Truth. His followers were connected with him only because inwardly they were not really seeking him, but the Truth. Existence after death is the Abode of Truth. If its laws were established by people, history would be different. But this is reality, not theory - so our decision is inevitable.
