Sufi parable from Rumi Once upon a time, a fool appeared before the eyes of King Solomon.
“What do you want, unfortunate one,” asked the king.
“O king, the angel of death appeared to me at night, stopped next to me and looked at me with an unkind gaze for a long time!”
- How can I help you? - the king was surprised.
“O lord, command the wind, let it carry me to Hindustan, and there I will be able to hide from this evil angel,” the unfortunate fool prayed.
Solomon immediately ordered the wind to take him to Hindustan, and after some time he himself met with the angel of death and asked him:
- Why did you, O messenger of God, look so unkindly at one unfortunate man that he ran away to Hindustan from his family and loved ones?
“I find it strange myself,” answered the angel. “But God told me to take this soul in the vastness of Hindustan and send it to hell, and therefore I was very surprised that this sinner was here, near you. But, thank God, he immediately rushed off to Hindustan, and I was able to fulfill the Lord’s command exactly!
We must always remember that if a person cannot hide from himself, then he will certainly never hide from God.
